Leading cloud software provider Zoho has revealed that it has invested in Karuvi and Yali Aerospace, two Indian manufacturing startups. This action is in line with Zoho’s dedication to developing deep-tech know-how and advancing home manufacturing capacities. The secret investment is intended to create jobs in India’s smaller towns and villages. The CEO and co-founder of Zoho, Sridhar Vembu, highlights the importance of technology and manufacturing to a country’s economic health. He recognizes that increasing the currently insufficient skills in these fields requires a deliberate effort. “Zoho is proud to support Karuvi and Yali, who are not only innovating in their respective fields but also creating jobs and bringing valuable technical skills to rural areas,” Vembu says.
Karuvi: Powering Up Rural Manufacturing
Karuvi is a mechatronics firm based in Chennai that was founded in 2022 with the goal of producing high-quality power tools in India. Right now, their product line includes eleven necessary tools, such as angle grinders, power saws, and drills. Karuvi intends to grow this year by opening a new production facility in the Tamil Nadu town of Tenkasi. Remarkably, Karuvi places a high priority on local sourcing; almost 95% of their components come from vendors in the country. The CEO of Karuvi, MSD Prasad, describes the company’s aggressive expansion strategies. “We want to add a lot more products to our lineup; by the end of 2025, we want to have at least 30. In addition, we are working hard to establish a robust local supplier network so that we can source all of our components domestically.” This focus on domestic manufacturing and component sourcing aligns perfectly with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, which aims to transform the country into a global manufacturing hub.
Yali Aerospace: Delivering the Future of Medical Logistics
Another company that benefited from Zoho’s investment is Yali aeronautical, a Thanjavur-based startup that is leading the way in aeronautical innovation. Their current concept is focused on deploying drones to deliver emergency medical supplies. With a delivery time of only 120 minutes, this cutting-edge technology has an amazing range of nearly 300 kilometers. The CEO and founder of Yali Aerospace, Dinesh Baluraj, emphasizes how their technology has the ability to completely transform medical logistics, especially in rural areas. “To get the required permissions for a pilot project, we are presently in talks with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This project envisions establishing a drone network specifically designed to connect hospitals, especially in hilly regions where traditional transportation methods face significant challenges.” Yali Aerospace’s focus on drone-based medical deliveries holds immense promise for improving access to critical medical supplies in geographically isolated areas.
