Airport Operations Suspended Due to Adverse Weather

Heavy rain and strong winds devastated Mumbai’s transportation infrastructure, causing mayhem at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and halting metro and local rail services around the city.Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were momentarily halted due to poor visibility and inclement weather. The airport management published a statement confirming the suspension, which lasted about 66 minutes. During this time, 15 flights were diverted to adjacent airports for safety reasons.

IMD Warning and Impact on Metro and Train Services

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. Residents were urged to prepare for inclement weather and probable delays to their everyday activities. The bad weather conditions also had an impact on Mumbai’s metro and train services.

Power Outages and Incidents of Trees Falling

While the unseasonal showers gave reprieve from the blazing heat, power disruptions were recorded in Kalwa and surrounding areas. Trees fell in several sections of Mumbai, adding to the difficulties created by the inclement weather.Heavy rain and strong gusts hit the suburbs of Dadar, Kurla, Mahim, Ghatkopar, Mulund, and Vikhroli, while drizzles fell in areas of south Mumbai. Satellite towns including Thane, Ambernath, Badlapur, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar also saw moderate rainfall and high winds.
