Maruti Suzuki is poised to launch its inaugural all-electric vehicle, the eVX, by the end of 2024. The electric SUV was unveiled at last year’s Auto Expo in Noida, and the company is gearing up to roll it out from the Suzuki Gujarat plant.

Production Boost for Growing Demand

Speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), confirmed the eVX’s production timeline. Suzuki acknowledged India’s status as the world’s third-largest automobile market and highlighted the increased production capacity to meet the surging demand.

Aggressive Pricing Strategy

Emphasizing the eVX’s status as a genuine Made-in-India product, Suzuki revealed that the battery, powertrain, and other critical components would be indigenous. This strategy is anticipated to position the eVX competitively in the Indian market with aggressive pricing.

Global Reach

Suzuki expressed plans to export the eVX to Japan and European countries, showcasing the company’s ambition to establish a global footprint in the electric vehicle market. The vehicle’s introduction aligns with Suzuki’s vision to contribute to the evolving landscape of sustainable mobility.

EV Launch Timeline

While the eVX’s India launch is expected in 2025, Suzuki Motor President Toshihiro Suzuki affirmed that the electric SUV would be produced at the Suzuki Gujarat plant by the end of the current year. The plant is gearing up for the new addition to its production lines to accommodate the EV manufacturing.

eVX Specifications and Features

The eVX is positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, featuring a raised and upright seating posture for a spacious cabin. Built on a new skateboard platform, it is equipped with a 60kWh battery pack, providing an impressive driving range of up to 550km. With dimensions of 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,600mm in height, the eVX combines style and practicality.

In summary, Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicle segment with the eVX signifies a significant step towards sustainable mobility. The strategic production plans, coupled with an emphasis on indigenization, underscore the company’s commitment to shaping the future of electric mobility in India and beyond.
