On its opening Monday, Vicky Kaushal’s most recent romantic comedy, Bad Newz, saw a sharp decline at the box office. The film’s earnings fell to single digits after a strong opening weekend that yielded the third-highest opening of Kaushal’s career.
A steep decline
Industry estimates state that on its fourth day, Bad Newz, which also stars Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk, brought in an estimated ₹3.5 crore nett. This is a significant drop from the ₹11.15 crore that was made on Sunday. Although a decline from a weekend to a weekday is usual, the extent of this decline is very remarkable.
High hopes, dashed expectations
The movie’s first-day receipts were so good that they even surpassed Vicky Kaushal’s last blockbuster, Uri: The Surgical Strike. Despite their strength, the weekend collections that followed were unable to sustain the initial pace. Following the underwhelming results on Monday, Bad Newz’s total box office receipts now stand at ₹33 crore.
What went wrong?
The reasons behind this sharp decline are yet to be fully analyzed. Factors such as competition from other films, audience word-of-mouth, and the film’s content itself could have contributed to the drop.
What’s next for Vicky Kaushal?
Despite the setback, Vicky Kaushal has several promising projects in the pipeline. His upcoming films include the period drama Chhaava and the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Love & War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
