The 18th Lok Sabha will begin to take shape today when the Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, meet with President Droupadi Murmu to present the complete list of newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs).
President Murmu will invite the largest party to form the government after this presentation, which is an important stage in the post-election process.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) overwhelmingly approved a resolution earlier on Wednesday designating Narendra Modi as their leader for a third term in office. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA won a landslide victory, taking 293 seats over the required 272 majority.
NDA leaders met at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home following the election results to discuss government formation and assess the results. Prominent figures who attended included Nitish Kumar, the head of the Janata Dal, and Chandrababu Naidu, the chief of the Telugu Desam Party, whose 28 seats together are crucial to the stability of the BJP-led coalition.
