Hectic discussions are underway as anticipation builds for Narendra Modi’s anticipated third term as Prime Minister. In a significant development, BJP leaders Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh convened at party president JP Nadda’s residence in Delhi. Additionally, all BJP Members of Parliament (MPs) and Chief Ministers (CMs) have been summoned to Delhi for a crucial meeting scheduled for 10:30 am on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, marking the beginning of the process for his third term. He is expected to take the oath for his third term, likely on Sunday, following assurances of support from coalition partners.

Wednesday witnessed intense negotiations and key meetings by both the Congress-led INDIA alliance and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). With no single party securing a mandate to form the government on its own, discussions have been critical for charting the course ahead.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Results Highlights:

Securing a simple majority of 272 seats is imperative for government formation. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP secured 240 seats, a significant decrease from its 2019 tally of 303 seats. On the other hand, the Congress made substantial gains, winning 99 seats. The BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats, while the INDIA bloc crossed the 230-mark, posing stiff competition and defying earlier predictions.

NDA Bloc Meeting

  1. Narendra Modi was unanimously chosen as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during a crucial meeting held in the national capital. This sets the stage for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.
  2. Top BJP leaders, including JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, engaged in discussions with NDA allies such as Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu to deliberate on the formation of the new government.
  3. Following the NDA meeting, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu confirmed his party’s unwavering support for the alliance, ensuring their active participation in the upcoming government.
  4. The presence and support of leaders like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu hold immense significance for the BJP, given that the party fell short by 32 seats to reach the majority mark of 272 in the Lok Sabha elections.
  5. The NDA meeting witnessed the participation of key allies, including Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, JD(S)’s HD Kumaraswamy, Janasena’s Pawan Kalyan, LJP’s Chirag Paswan, and NCP’s Praful Patel, among others.

INDIA Bloc Meeting

  1. Following the INDIA bloc meeting on Wednesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support.
  2. Kharge reiterated the INDIA bloc’s commitment to resist what they termed as the BJP’s “fascist rule” under Prime Minister Modi.
  3. He emphasized that the people’s mandate reflected a strong response to the BJP’s politics characterized by hate, corruption, price rises, unemployment, and crony capitalism.
  4. The INDIA bloc reaffirmed its objective to defend the Indian Constitution and safeguard democracy, as highlighted by Kharge.
  5. The meeting held at the Congress president’s residence saw the participation of several key leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Tejashwi Yadav, among others.
