With growing concerns about indoor air pollution, more consumers are recognizing the importance of improving air quality in their homes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), indoor air pollution can be up to five times more harmful than outdoor air pollution due to contaminants like cleaning agents, cooking fumes, and other household activities. In response to this health crisis, Jaipur-based KARBAN Envirotech has introduced an innovative solution: a multifunctional bladeless fan that integrates air purification, lighting, and IoT-enabled climate control.

A Vision for Better Indoor Air Quality

Karan Bansal, the co-founder of KARBAN Envirotech, was driven by the idea of addressing indoor air pollution head-on. “Air quality is a universal challenge, but when we consider our own living spaces, we find that indoor pollution often goes unchecked. That’s something I wanted to change,” says Bansal.

Founded in 2021 by Karan Bansal and Tanya Goyal, KARBAN Envirotech is a consumer electronics startup focused on creating energy-efficient, IoT-powered climate control solutions for modern homes. Their flagship product, a bladeless ceiling fan, is designed to optimize air circulation and improve indoor air quality through advanced technologies like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and insights from aerospace engineering.

From Aerospace Engineering to Air Purification

Bansal’s journey into air purification started with his fascination with mechanical engineering and aerodynamics. After completing his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at IIT Guwahati, he pursued a master’s in aerospace engineering at Purdue University, renowned for its research in aerodynamics and CFD. He later worked at Convergent Science, a CFD software company, where he contributed to the design of advanced systems, including rocket components and compressors.

While working in the U.S., Bansal realized that the same aerodynamic principles used in aerospace could be applied to solve India’s pressing air quality and energy efficiency problems. “I saw an opportunity to bring together my passion for technology and my engineering background to create a product that would improve indoor air quality and address the unique air pollution challenges in India,” Bansal explains.

The Birth of the Bladeless Fan

The original idea behind KARBAN was to develop a bladeless fan that addressed both cooling and air purification. However, as Bansal began designing the first prototype, he realized that a single-function product wouldn’t suffice for the diverse needs of modern homes. “The problem with traditional home appliances is that they take up a lot of space, and each device serves just one function. We wanted to create something that combined multiple functions into one compact design,” Bansal says.

After several iterations and 20-30 prototypes, KARBAN’s breakthrough product was born—a multifunctional, space-saving fan that combines air purification, cooling, and lighting into one sleek unit. The first prototype of their flagship product, Airzone, launched in November 2022, followed by Airzone Lite in January 2024.

KARBAN’s Multi-Functional Approach

KARBAN now offers two variants of its product: the Airzone and the Airzone Lite. These products come in three different color and light options, totaling 18 unique SKUs. Airzone is designed for larger spaces, while Airzone Lite is aimed at more compact areas. The startup has already sold approximately 1,000 units within its first nine months, generating Rs 1 crore in revenue via their website and Amazon, as well as through offline distribution in cities like Coimbatore, Pune, and Bangalore.

The products incorporate advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics algorithms and IoT integration, ensuring optimal air circulation and purification while maintaining energy efficiency. The bladeless design ensures a quiet operation, making it ideal for modern homes that prioritize comfort and quality.

Energy-Efficient Air Purification

At the heart of KARBAN’s technology is its Forever Pure Technology, which stabilizes air quality, providing a consistent flow of clean air with minimal energy consumption—just 30 watts for both cooling and purification. This efficiency is a significant draw for consumers who seek effective, low-energy climate control solutions for their homes.

KARBAN’s manufacturing facility in Jaipur can produce around 100-120 units daily, with each unit taking approximately 40 hours to assemble. The startup currently produces the product using a wooden body due to budget constraints, although future models will use a plastic base for more cost-effective mass production.

Scaling Up and Expanding Reach

The smart home appliance market in India is on an upward trajectory, with projections estimating it will generate $7.2 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.1% from 2023 to 2030. KARBAN plans to capitalize on this growing demand, having already raised Rs 9.3 crore from investors such as All in Capital, Titan Capital, and Rainmatter.

KARBAN’s goals for FY2025 are ambitious, aiming to reach 50,000 to 60,000 households with its products. To achieve this, the company plans to expand its offline presence through experience centers, where customers can interact with the products before making a purchase decision.

Global Expansion Plans

Looking beyond India, KARBAN is preparing to introduce its products to international markets such as the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. “The potential for growth is immense. Our products are designed with global needs in mind, and we are excited to introduce them to new markets,” says Bansal.

As indoor air quality and energy efficiency become increasingly important to consumers, KARBAN Envirotech is positioning itself as a leader in innovative climate control solutions that combine technology, design, and sustainability.

A Breath of Fresh Air for Smart Homes

KARBAN Envirotech is helping people breathe easier by offering an innovative solution that combines bladeless fans, air purifiers, and lighting, all in one compact, IoT-enabled device. With a focus on energy efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and sleek design, KARBAN’s products are well-suited for modern homes that prioritize both functionality and aesthetics. As the startup looks to scale and expand its global presence, its commitment to improving indoor air quality remains at the core of its mission.
