Asan, a pioneering menstrual cup company, has unveiled its latest innovation—the Asan Period Tracker app. This new app aims to empower women by offering comprehensive insights into their menstrual cycles, moods, and symptoms while also promoting sustainability through its unique environmental tracker feature.

A Journey Rooted in Social Impact

Founded in April 2021 by Ira Guha, Asan introduced its revolutionary menstrual cup designed and patented by the Harvard Innovation Lab. Made from medical-grade silicone, the Asan cup features a unique removal ring, making it user-friendly and sustainable. Each cup is reusable for up to 10 years, replacing approximately 6,500 disposable sanitary napkins, thereby significantly reducing environmental waste.

Staying true to its mission of combating period poverty, Asan operates on a “buy one, donate one” model. For every cup sold, another is donated to a woman in need, particularly from disadvantaged communities. To date, Asan has sold over 100,000 menstrual cups and expanded its reach to 12 countries, including India, the UK, and several nations across Asia and Africa.

The Asan Period Tracker App: A Holistic Approach

The Asan Period Tracker app, available for free on the App Store and Google Play, goes beyond traditional period tracking by addressing the broader health implications of menstrual cycles. Unlike most period apps that focus solely on fertility, the Asan app covers all phases of the menstrual cycle—follicular, ovular, luteal, and menstrual.

The app enables users to track their moods, symptoms, and irregularities, offering 100% free analytics without hidden costs or in-app advertisements. User data remains private and secure, with no sharing or selling to third parties.

Environmental Awareness Through Tracking

A standout feature of the app is its environmental tracker, which calculates the carbon footprint of users’ period products. Women can monitor the environmental impact of switching to sustainable alternatives such as menstrual cups, cloth pads, or period underwear. The tracker provides real-time insights into landfill waste reduction, money saved, and carbon emissions averted.

Women-Led Innovation

The Asan Period Tracker app was developed entirely by a women-led team, ensuring a user-centric design that is both simple and intuitive. According to Guha, the team approached the project with their own experiences in mind, resulting in an app that resonates with its users.

Within days of its launch, the app surpassed 1,000 downloads. To enhance user adoption, new customers purchasing the Asan cup receive an email with a download link to the app.

Future Enhancements and AI Integration

Guha envisions further advancements for the app, including the integration of an AI-powered chatbot to address health-related queries. By combining technology with social impact, Asan is creating a tool that prioritizes education and awareness around menstrual health.

Expanding Social Impact

Beyond its direct-to-consumer sales on platforms like Shopify and Amazon, Asan remains committed to its social impact mission. The company has adopted over 100 villages in Bengaluru’s Kanakapura area, reaching more than 30,000 women and girls. This initiative has not only improved menstrual health awareness but also led to tangible benefits such as increased school attendance and household savings.

Internationally, Asan has distributed over 5,000 menstrual cups in Malawi and 2,000 in Zanzibar, where it collaborates with the military. Plans are underway to expand into the US, France, and Germany, furthering its global reach.

A Mission to End Period Poverty

Asan’s dual focus on innovation and social impact continues to drive its mission to eradicate period poverty worldwide. By leveraging tools like the Period Tracker app and expanding its partnerships, Asan is empowering women while championing sustainability.

“We are laser-focused on our mission to end period poverty globally,” Guha asserts, highlighting the app as a tool for education and awareness. With its groundbreaking initiatives, Asan is paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable future.
