In a groundbreaking move to foster innovation in the Indian spacetech sector, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its first-ever space accelerator program in India. AWS has committed $100K to support 24 promising spacetech startups through a comprehensive 14-week accelerator program. This initiative aims to empower early and growth-stage startups by providing them with technical expertise, specialized AWS training, and mentorship from industry experts.

Program Overview

The AWS Space Accelerator program is designed to nurture and accelerate the growth of spacetech startups by offering:

  • Dedicated Technical Expertise: Startups will receive tailored technical guidance to build secure and scalable solutions.
  • Specialized AWS Training: Access to advanced AWS technologies in areas like GenAI, machine learning, and data analytics.
  • Mentoring: Insights and advice from space domain and technical experts.
  • Business Training: Focused sessions on go-to-market strategies, fundraising, and business fundamentals.

Selection Criteria

Applications were evaluated based on the uniqueness and innovation of the solutions, product-market fit, sustainability, creative application of AWS technology, and the team’s capability to deliver on their vision.

Notable Statements

AWS’s Director of the Aerospace and Satellite Business, Clint Crosier, emphasized the strategic importance of launching this program in India. “We see extraordinary growth opportunities in the Indian space sector. With a record number of new Indian space startups and strong governmental support, the talent in India is world-class in technical areas encompassing space,” Crosier stated.

This initiative follows a year after Amazon signed an MoU with ISRO and IN-SPACe to support spacetech innovations through cloud computing, offering Indian startups access to cutting-edge technologies to accelerate their development.

Market Insights

According to Inc42’s Indian Spacetech Startup Landscape & Market Opportunity Report 2023, the spacetech sector in India is projected to reach $77 billion by 2030, growing at a 26% CAGR.
