Numerous senior NCP politicians quit to join Sharad Pawar’s faction, dealing a serious blow to Ajit Pawar’s party. Reeling from the disastrous Lok Sabha vote, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP lost ground to Sharad Pawar when its powerful leaders from Pune district’s Pimpri-Chinchwad joined his party.
Ajit Gavhane, the president of Pimpri-Chinchwad, is one of the individuals that resigned. Numerous former Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation corporators are with him. The Pune stronghold of the Maharashtra deputy chief minister has been severely damaged.
Maharashtra assembly elections
With the Maharashtra assembly elections approaching, it appears that the flight from Ajit Pawar’s NCP is continuing, since all of them have joined the “parent” NCP in Sharad Pawar’s presence.
Furthermore, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) also referenced a report in a Marathi monthly connected to the RSS on Wednesday, implying that the BJP is subtly pressuring the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, to withdraw from the ruling “Mahayuti” alliance in Maharashtra.
BJP hoping to win the next Maharashtra assembly elections
Speaking to reporters here, NCP (SP) spokesperson Clyde Crasto stated that the BJP is hoping to win the next Maharashtra assembly elections following the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, but the saffron party is aware that its alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led party will damage its chances.
BJP Realisation
According to Crasto, the BJP has started to realize that having Ajit Pawar in the Shiv Sena-BJP government—which he joined in July 2023—is generating problems and that the alliance will prevent it from winning elections. Thus, the official stated, (BJP) are finding reasons to send across this message. In the latest Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s number of seats in Maharashtra fell sharply from 23 in 2019 to only nine, with its ally Shiv Sena gaining seven seats and the NCP, led by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, winning just one seat.
