The popular Telugu actor and president of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), Pawan Kalyan, is expected to succeed him as Andhra Pradesh’s deputy chief minister. Kalyan’s political career soars as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader N Chandrababu Naidu gets ready to take the oath of office as chief minister on June 12.

TDP’s Dominant Win in 2024 Elections

With 135 out of 175 seats won, the TDP-led alliance won handily in the 2024 Assembly elections. TDP’s allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the JSP and BJP, took home 21 and 8 seats, respectively. Collectively, they accumulated an impressive 164 seats. Only 11 seats were won by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which is led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The NDA coalition won 21 of Andhra Pradesh’s 25 parliamentary seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP secured three seats, the JSP two, and the TDP sixteen. In the state, the Congress-led INDIA alliance failed to win any seats, while the YSRCP managed to capture four seats.

Who is Pawan Kalyan?

Born Konidela Kalyan Babu, Pawan Kalyan is a well-known character in the Telugu cinema industry. Following the release of his first movie, Akkada Abbai Ikkada Ammayi, in 1996, he became well-known. Kalyan, the younger brother of the late greats Chiranjeevi and Nagendra Babu, established himself in the business with a number of hit films.

Film Career Highlights

Gokulamlo Seeta (1997) and Suswagatham (1998) were Kalyan’s breakthroughs, and Tholi Prema (1998) catapulted him to stardom. Thammudu (1999), Badri (2000), Balu (2005), Jalsa (2008), Gabbar Singh (2012), Attarintiki Daredi (2013), Gopala Gopala (2015), and Bheemla Nayak (2022) are some of his other highly regarded works.

Political Journey

2008 marked the start of Kalyan’s political career when he was elected president of Yuva Rajyam, the Praja Rajyam Party’s (PRP) youth wing, which his brother Chiranjeevi had created. Despite not running for office at the time, he actively participated in the party’s campaign. Kalyan disassociated himself and declined to join the Congress after Chiranjeevi combined the PRP with the Congress Party.

Kalyan established the Jana Sena Party in advance of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. JSP formed an alliance with the TDP and BJP even though it did not run for office. 2019 saw Kalyan run as an independent candidate, emphasising in his manifesto problems pertaining to farmers. But Kalyan’s loss of the Bhimavaram and Gajuwaka seats was a major setback for him and his party. And the JSP prevailed.

2024 Electoral Success

Kalyan teamed up with the TDP and BJP once more in the 2024 elections, which helped Andhra Pradesh win both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with overwhelming margins. By a margin of 70,279 votes, Kalyan, who was running from Pithapuram in the Assembly elections, defeated Vanga Geetha of the YSRCP.

Personal Life

Russian model and actress Anna Lezhneva is the spouse of Pawan Kalyan. He was previously married to Nandini and Renu Desai. She is his third wife.

Many are still inspired by Pawan Kalyan’s path from movie star to influential political figure in Andhra Pradesh as he takes on the post of Deputy Chief Minister. His dedication to his political career and his party’s recent electoral win represent a critical turning point in his changing legacy.
