A key figure in promoting inclusivity in the real estate sector is Amrita Gupta, the founder and president of CREDAI Rajasthan Women’s Wing and a director at the Manglam Group. Her story of enthusiasm, resiliency, and inventiveness unfolds as she goes from a creative child to a leader in an industry that has historically been dominated by men.

Early Interests and Career Beginnings

Amrita Gupta was always drawn to artistic endeavours including dancing, painting, and design. When she was a teenager, helping to renovate her family house ignited her interest in design. Her enthusiasm was stoked by working alongside and observing architects and designers, which ultimately inspired her to seek a career in design.

Gupta started out at the family’s jewellery company as a professional. Following her education, she enrolled in a jewellery design course and started working for her father’s company as a jewellery designer. This looked to be her destiny until she got married in 2006 and started working for the Manglam Group, a conglomerate located in Jaipur that is involved in amusement parks, real estate, healthcare, and hotels.

Transition to Interior Design

2008’s worldwide recession put an end to Gupta’s intentions to grow the Manglam Group into the jewellery design industry. Relentlessly, she turned her attention to interior design, utilising her imaginative abilities in the real estate ventures managed by the Manglam Group. She started out knowing very nothing about real estate and structures, but she was able to succeed because of her natural sense of design.

Her interior design work at Manglam’s Aroma, a Jaipur residential structure, was one of her early triumphs. Gupta was inspired to stay in this industry when all of the mock units in this project were sold. She has worked with architects on more complicated projects throughout the years, designing both the exterior and interiors of buildings. Among these projects, one noteworthy one was a clubhouse that she created in 2013 and was heavily involved in.

Expanding into Hospitality

Around 2016, Gupta advocated extending Manglam Group’s operations into the hospitality industry, recognising its rise. Though it was difficult to persuade her colleagues, she found an ideal plot of land close to the Jaipur-Delhi Highway for a new project. They have joined with the Marriott Group by late 2018, which was a big accomplishment.

In order to meet changing consumer expectations, redesigns were required and unanticipated delays were brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic. Following the pandemic, Gupta observed a trend towards smaller, more personal weddings, which led to changes in their hospitality packages.

Championing Women in Real Estate

2019 saw Gupta establish the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) Rajasthan Women’s Wing. The Women’s Wing began a number of projects under her direction, such as paid contracts for female labourers and painting instruction programs to assist women in getting employment. She also planned networking gatherings, mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns to promote women’s more active participation in the real estate industry.

Gupta wants to dispel the idea that men predominate in the real estate industry. She highlights how women’s comprehension of and ability to transform dwellings into homes gives them a special emotional worth in their employment. The CREDAI Rajasthan Women’s Wing began with just 30 women and currently has 180 members.

Overcoming Challenges and Bias

Gupta has faced difficulties along the way. She encountered a great deal of discrimination when she moved from the less gender biassed industry of jewellery creation to real estate and hospitality. She frequently encountered folks who were doubting her choices and looking to her male coworkers for approval. Despite these obstacles, Gupta’s success has been fuelled by her tenacity and her family’s constant support.

Guiding Principles

Reflecting on her career, Gupta shares three fundamental principles that have guided her journey in real estate:

  1. Customer Satisfaction: Always aim to satisfy the customer.
  2. Understanding Competition: Know your competition well.
  3. Adding Value: Continuously find ways to add value to your company.

Final Thoughts

The tale of Amrita Gupta is one of persistence and adaptation. Her journey began when she designed jewellery and continues now as a real estate and hospitality professional. She has always looked for chances and surmounted prejudices. Her efforts with the CREDAI Rajasthan Women’s Wing are opening doors for more women to enter and succeed in the real estate sector, bringing diversity and vibrancy to the sector.
