President Joe Biden called on his supporters Tuesday to rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris in his first remarks after announcing his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

Addressing staff at his campaign headquarters via a phone call shared publicly, Biden explained that stepping down was the “right thing” to do. “I know yesterday’s news is surprising and it’s hard for you to handle, but it was the right thing to do,” he said, referring to his decision to drop out.

“She’s the best,” he added, expressing his confidence in Harris. Biden also mentioned that he will remain active in supporting Harris’s campaign, saying he will be “out on the road for Harris and will do whatever she needs him to do.” Biden publicly endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate soon after announcing the end of his campaign.

Despite abandoning his campaign, Biden assured his supporters that he will stay fully engaged in helping the Democrats secure a win. “Even though I won’t be on the ticket, I’ll be fully engaged to help Democrats secure a win,” he said.
President Biden not running for reelection
Biden also pledged to continue his efforts to conclude the conflict in Gaza before his term ends. He declared, “I’ll be working very closely with the Israelis and with the Palestinians to try to work out how we can end the Gaza war, achieve Middle East peace, and get all those hostages home.”
