A local law enforcement official told CBS News that Crooks was photographed by a sniper from a tactical squad that had been sent to support the Secret Service at the Pennsylvania rally, and that the shooter had observed Crooks using a rangefinder just before the shooting. Crooks began fire from the roof of the building, where the sniper was one of three inside.
Intense Criticism
Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle is being urged to step down as a result of intense criticism directed towards the agency for its failure to shield Donald Trump. Cheatle has stated in the midst of the controversy that the agency did not place the guard on the roof because of its extreme tilt. It wasn’t until Crooks had already killed firefighter Corey Comperatore and injured Trump and two other people that he was taken out by Secret Service snipers.
