There are a tonne of motivational stories on social media these days. Nahuel Candia, the creator of Rebill.com, a payments and subscriptions platform, recently shared an amazing story on X (previously known as Twitter). After 15 years of unwavering work, Candia shared how he was able to fulfil his dream of becoming a permanent resident in the United States.

The Journey to a Green Card

Nahuel Candia began posting updates on X on June 23, 2024, detailing his journey to receive the US Green Card via the EB1A visa, which is granted to noncitizens with exceptional abilities. “Today, after over 15 years of dreaming about this moment, I am a permanent resident of the United States,” he stated in his letter. “I achieved this through the EB1A visa, also known as the visa for the top 1% of experts worldwide.”

Early Beginnings and Mentorship

When Candia started programming in high school fifteen years ago, his journey officially began. His enthusiasm brought him LinkedIn connections with Silicon Valley entrepreneur and Fulbright Alumni Association director Sonia Oster. In addition to introducing Candia to Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial culture and motivating him to follow his aspirations in the US, Oster was a crucial mentor to Candia.

Overcoming Obstacles

Candia was accepted to three US universities but her finances prevented her from attending. Nevertheless, he continued. At the age of 19, he left home to start Shovel Apps, which he termed the “WordPress for mobile apps,” and made his first journey to San Francisco alone. In spite of the difficult conditions, he made connections and picked up insightful knowledge that moulded his spirit of entrepreneurship.

A Transformative Experience at MIT

Following the closure of his first business in 2016 because there wasn’t a good product-market fit, Candia travelled to Asia and applied for positions with Facebook, Google, and AWS. Despite not being accepted into AWS, he finally became a UK Entrepreneur. He launched his new business, Rebill, upon his return to the UK in 2021, and four months later, he joined Y Combinator.

Setbacks and New Beginnings

Candia travelled around the globe to Asia and applied for positions at Google, AWS, and Facebook following the closure of his first business in 2016 since there was not a good product-market fit. Despite failing to make the cut at AWS, he finally became a UK Entrepreneur. He brought his new business, Rebill, back to the UK in 2021, and four months later he applied to Y Combinator.

Building Rebill and a Vision for the Future

Because of the time difference, running Rebill from the UK became difficult, so Candia went back to Argentina to assemble a strong staff. “Now, we are 12 in a kick-ass team, operating the next-to-be Stripe for Latin America,” he wrote in his post. The relocation of Candia to Miami is a component of a bigger plan to connect the US and Latin American markets.

Viral Success and Community Support

With just a few clicks, Candia’s story received over a million views. Many people found resonance in the essay, as evidenced by the abundance of congrats and supportive remarks that flooded the comments section. One person commented, “Cheers to that view and congratulations.” Another said, “Well done. It’s a remarkable accomplishment. This has greatly encouraged me as I start my own path.”

Final Thoughts

The path that Nahuel Candia took to get his US Green Card is proof of his tenacity, fortitude, and the value of mentoring. His narrative offers hope to would-be business owners everywhere by demonstrating that goals may come true with commitment and perseverance.
