Encouragement from Political Leaders

The polling for the second phase commenced across 88 constituencies spread across 13 states and Union Territories. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media platforms to encourage citizens to participate in record numbers. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of each vote, particularly urging young and female voters to exercise their democratic right. Similarly, Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to citizens to contribute to the democratic process by voting for a stronger, secure, and prosperous nation.

Scheduled Electoral Process

The voting process, which began at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm, is part of a seven-phased Lok Sabha election scheduled to end on June 1, with vote counting set for June 4. The Election Commission of India oversaw the smooth conduct of polling across various states and Union Territories. A total of 1202 candidates contested in this phase, vying for the votes of over 8.08 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters, including third-gender electors and first-time voters. Notably, Kerala and Karnataka witnessed the highest number of constituencies going to polls.

Inclusive Electoral Measures

To ensure a smooth and inclusive voting experience, the Election Commission implemented various measures. This included webcasting in over 50 percent of polling stations, deployment of micro-observers, and setting up model polling stations with local themes. Additionally, polling stations managed entirely by women and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) reflected the commitment to inclusivity.

Reflecting on India’s Electoral Journey

The ongoing Lok Sabha elections serve as a pivotal moment in India’s democratic journey. As citizens exercise their right to vote, the nation embarks on a collective path towards shaping its future. Google’s symbolic gesture through the Doodle commemorates this democratic spirit and emphasizes the importance of active citizen participation.
