Identified as Rajan Singh, the accused was apprehended subsequent to the dissemination of a video by opposition leaders, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter). The video, approximately two minutes in duration, allegedly captures the individual repeatedly voting for a BJP candidate, Mukesh Rajput, via an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at a polling booth. However, the authenticity of the video remains unverified by India Today.

Upon discovery of the video, an FIR was filed at the Naya Gaon police station based on a complaint lodged by ARO Prateet Tripathi.
