Delhi Chief Minister’s Allegations Negligence

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health has become a subject of controversy following his recent stint in Tihar jail, where he was administered insulin after his blood sugar levels surged to 320. Kejriwal accused the jail administration of neglecting his medical needs, particularly in providing insulin despite repeated requests.

Allegations and Counterclaims

Kejriwal’s accusations were met with a rebuttal from the Tihar jail administration, which refuted claims of negligence, stating that during a video consultation with specialists from AIIMS, the issue of insulin was not raised. The AAP, however, stood firm on its allegations, asserting that Kejriwal’s health was deliberately ignored by officials under the BJP-led central government.

Legal Intervention and Medical Assessment

A city court intervened by directing AIIMS to form a medical board to assess Kejriwal’s medical needs, especially regarding insulin. This move came after concerns were raised about discrepancies between Kejriwal’s dietary regimen, which consisted of home-cooked food, and the prescribed diet recommended by doctors.

Persistent Demands for Medical Attention

In a letter to the Tihar jail superintendent, Kejriwal reiterated his demands for insulin and rejected claims that the issue was never raised during consultations with doctors. The AAP alleged that the Tihar administration intentionally withheld insulin from Kejriwal, accusing them of conspiring against him.

Political Allegations and Responses

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that the AAP aimed to garner public sympathy for Kejriwal’s health issues during the Lok Sabha elections. He argued that Kejriwal’s sugar levels were under control in jail as he did not demand insulin during the video consultation with AIIMS doctors.

Legal and Political Maneuvering

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) accused Kejriwal of regularly consuming sugary foods, suggesting an attempt to exploit his health condition for legal advantage. Kejriwal dismissed these accusations and accused the agency of politicizing the issue.

Kejriwal’s Health Condition

Kejriwal revealed that his blood sugar levels consistently spiked, reaching peaks between 250-320, with fasting sugar levels ranging from 160-200. He reiterated that he had demanded insulin almost daily, challenging the assertion that the issue was never raised.

Background and Legal Proceedings

The Delhi Chief Minister was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy. He has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1. The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear Kejriwal’s petition challenging the summonses issued by the probe agency on May 15.

In summary, Arvind Kejriwal’s health concerns while in Tihar jail have sparked controversy, with allegations of medical negligence from the AAP chief countered by denials from jail authorities. Legal intervention and political maneuvering have added complexity to the situation, highlighting the intersection of health, law, and politics in India’s current landscape.
