The brainchild of serial entrepreneur Praveen Krishnaiah, The Out Factory stems from a personal desire for a more comfortable camping experience. An avid outdoorsman, Krishnaiah found himself yearning for a sturdy, adaptable tent that could accommodate modern conveniences and provide ample space for his gear. Inspired by his travels abroad, where yurts offered a perfect solution, Krishnaiah embarked on a mission to bring this concept to India.
Undeterred by the lack of yurt options in the Indian market, Krishnaiah took matters into his own hands. With the help of a carpenter and canvas sourced locally, he built his first yurt – a prototype that sparked unexpected interest on social media. This initial success ignited the spark that led to the official launch of The Out Factory in 2019.

Yurts, traditionally used by nomadic communities in Central Asia, are more akin to small homes than tents. They boast significantly more space, allowing for a more luxurious camping retreat. From Hobby to Flourishing Business
Krishnaiah, a man of diverse ventures, is also the founder of XtremeZone (a camping and adventure sports outfit), Knewcleus (an educational management software company), and Roombr (a brand of walltop computers). The Out Factory, born from his passion for outdoor living, has blossomed into a successful business, catering to resorts, holiday homes, hoteliers, and even farmland owners.
Crafting Comfort in the Wilderness
The Out Factory’s manufacturing unit in Jakkur, Bengaluru, is where the magic happens. Krishnaiah’s dedication is evident, as he practically resides in a yurt on the premises, allowing him to oversee operations and customize yurts to meet specific client needs.
The yurts themselves are a marvel of design and functionality. Constructed using wood and high-quality architectural fabric imported from France, they provide excellent insulation for a comfortable stay. Each yurt is custom-made within 45 days and can be installed on-site within 72 hours.
Customization and Durability at the Forefront
“We take immense pride in the hyper-customizability of our yurts,” says Krishnaiah. “They can be tailored to the unique preferences of each owner, offering unparalleled luxury and sturdiness compared to traditional tents.”
Safety and Security
Guest safety is paramount at The Out Factory. The yurts are secured with a solid door, featuring options like deadbolts or keyless entry systems. UPVC windows encased within wooden frames provide additional security and can be secured from the inside. Clients can also install motion sensors, CCTV cameras, or any preferred security system within the yurt for ultimate peace of mind.
The yurts are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. Rain shields are strategically welded to the roof and extend over window and door frames, preventing water ingress. Krishnaiah assures that these yurts can endure up to 4 feet of snow and winds exceeding 280 km/h without sustaining any damage.
Luxury in Different Sizes
The Out Factory offers a range of yurt sizes to cater to varying needs and preferences. The cozy option measures 314 sq ft (20 ft diameter), while the larger yurts come in at 452 sq ft (24 ft diameter) and a spacious 804 sq ft (32 ft diameter).
Pricing and Popularity
The base price for a yurt starts at Rs 7.5 lakh, with additional features and customizations impacting the final cost. However, the investment proves worthwhile, as resort owners can command premium rental rates of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per night.
The Out Factory has already established a strong presence in Karnataka, with successful yurt installations in Nagarahole, Kanakapura, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru, Sarjapura, Bagepalli, Ahama, Kabini, and Devanahalli. They have also expanded their reach to Chennai and partnered with the Meghalayan tourism department for statewide yurt placements. As of March 2024, the company boasts a revenue of Rs 20 crore.
